2007-2008 NEWS ARCHIVE 5TH ANNUAL CROSS-CHECKING COLON CANCER WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS The 5th Annual Cross-Checking Colon Cancer Women's Ice Hockey Tournament took place November 2-4, 2007 at the Clifton Park Ice Arena in Clifton Park, NY. Each year, our tournament is dedicated to someone special who has battled colorectal cancer under the stereotypical age of 50. Last year, it was dedicated to Kim Troisi-Paton for the courage she showed in her fight against colon cancer. Kim recently lost her battle, and, because she is so special to us, we dedicated this year's tournament to her memory. Many of you may remember meeting Kim at the tournament in 2006. She was a lawyer and mother of two from Colonie, NY, who was diagnosed at age 35 with stage III colon cancer. Kim had the strength to stand up to reluctant doctors and wanted others to have the courage to take charge of their own health care and get answers when they know that something is wrong. We miss her terribly and will never forget her. This year, our USA Hockey sanctioned tournament raised over $7,000.00 to benefit The Colon Club. This year's tournament showcased six teams in the USA Hockey Senior B Division, six teams in the USA Hockey Senior C Division, and four teams in the USA Hockey Senior Recreation Division. The USA Hockey Senior B Division featured the Buffalo Saints, EC Raiders, Hudson River Waves, Green Mountain Girls, Philadelphia Freeze, and Syracuse Warriors. The USA Hockey Senior C Division featured the Adirondack Avalanche, Arctic Foxes, Rhode Island Panthers, Rome Grizzlies, Saratoga Storm, and Vermont Sting. The USA Hockey Senior Recreation Division featured the Arctic Foxes, Messa Mustangs, Syracuse Blades, and Westchester Ice Breakers. Each team played three games, with the top two teams in each division advancing to the championship. A huge THANK YOU to all the teams, sponsors, officials, volunteers, vendors, and fans for making this event a tremendous success. RESULTS
