"Hotels of Choice" for the Annual Cross-Checking Colon Cancer
Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

The Arctic
Foxes women's hockey team, based in Clifton Park, NY, formed after
watching the fun and excitement their children experienced while learning
how to skate and play hockey. In 1998, the Foxes started with
a half-dozen or so "hockey moms", some with figure skates
and most with little or no equipment, and watched the roster grow to
over 60 women and the formation of an additional travel team, in the
past seven years. Many members are mothers of skaters from the mini-mite
through high school levels, while others are stay-at-home moms, teachers,
doctors, secretaries, artists, scientists, students, and small business
owners, just to name a few.
2001-2002 The
Foxes take it to the next level by playing in their first USA Hockey
sanctioned game in Saratoga, NY, and later entering their first tournament,
The Toronto Icebreakers Tournament, in Toronto, Canada.
2002-2003 Roster
grows to almost 70 women and the Sunday/Monday Night Rec League is
born. Four teams are created with two teams facing off each night on
a rotating schedule. The Arctic Foxes Travel Team forms during the
second half of the season holding practice on Thursday nights. The
Travel Team finishes first in the Toronto Icebreakers Tournament and
third in the 3rd Annual Champlain Shootout Senior Women's Hockey Tournament
in Burlington, VT.
2003-2004 In
order to encourage more "rookies", the Rec League format
changes to Sundays for skills and Mondays for drills and scrimmages.
The First Annual Cross-Checking Colon Cancer Women's Ice Hockey Tournament
becomes a reality and over $6,000 is raised to benefit The Colon Club.
The Rec Team is voted "Happiest Team" at the 4th Annual Champlain
Shootout and the Travel Team captures second place in the D division.
2004-2005 The
Second Annual Cross-Checking Colon Cancer Women's Ice Hockey Tournament
surpasses previous year's total and over $7,600 is raised to benefit
The Colon Club. The Rec Team improves upon their record at the 5th
Annual Champlain Shootout while the Travel Team finishes in second
place for the second year in a row. The Rec Team also did well competing
in Lake Placid for the CHE Lake Placid Cup (what happens in Lake Placid
stays in Lake Placid!). The Arctic Foxes enter a team in the Freihofer's
Run for Women and take fourth place in the team competition.
2005-2006
Roster climbs to an all-time high of almost 80 members. The
Rec Team embarks on its most ambitious schedule to date which includes
a trip to Florida to face the Orlando Sirens. At the 6th Annual Champlain
Shootout, the Travel Team takes third place in the C Division while
the Rec Team captures the Championship in the Rec Division despite
losing two players after the first game. The Third Annual Cross-Checking
Colon Cancer Women's Ice Hockey Tournament raises nearly $8,000 for
The Colon Club. The Foxes round out the season with another team
appearance in the Freihofer's
Run for Women.
2006-2007
For the first time in Arctic Foxes' history, officers are elected
and by-laws put in place. Both the Rec Team and Travel Team play
their most extensive schedules yet, which includes taking part in
the "Stick it to Brain Tumors" Women's Ice Hockey Tournament, a terrific
new tournament organized by a former Fox. Over $7,000.00 is raised
to
benefit The Colon Club during the Fourth Annual Cross-Checking Colon
Cancer
Women's
Ice
Hockey
Tournament.
The tournament's continued success warrants a change in registration
policy for the 2008 contest. The Foxes continue their involvement
with the Freihofer's
Run for Women and plan a team/family camping trip for the summer.
2007-2008 History
in the making!
